The public open spaces crea­te iden­ti­ty and pro­vi­de ori­en­ta­ti­on. The cen­tral bou­le­vard refers to the mili­ta­ry past of the cita­del and bar­racks. The neigh­bor­hood pro­me­na­de con­nects the sta­ti­on with the future places of action, the neigh­bor­hood and fes­ti­val squa­re at the Pan­zer­hal­le. The pro­me­na­de at the Cita­del takes advan­ta­ge of the sun­ny sou­thern expo­sure and the neigh­bor­hood of the Cita­del. The park are­as around the quar­ter and cita­del con­nect the Esels­berg to the city and inte­gra­te sur­roun­ding neigh­bor­hoods. The com­mu­nal open spaces pro­mo­te neigh­bor­hoods

The traf­fic-cal­med resi­den­ti­al streets with their mul­ti­func­tion­al front zones pro­vi­de a varie­ty of usable com­mu­ni­ty space.

The pri­va­te open spaces secu­re spaces of retre­at.

The pri­va­te open spaces of the neigh­bor­hood are arran­ged from east to west:

– Gar­dens in the west to the green cor­ri­dor

– Gar­den cour­ty­ards in the block inte­ri­ors

– Cour­ty­ards along the bar­racks on Mäh­rin­ger Weg

Within the gar­dens, gar­den cour­ty­ards and cour­ty­ards are num­e­rous pri­va­te gar­den ter­races on the 1st flo­or and roof gar­dens on the 4th flo­or.
