The new building of the Sächsische Landes‑, Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Dresden (Dresden library) is the new centre of the Dresden “Hochschulachse” – university axis. The library is influenced by the landscape and open space circumstances of the city. The “green roof” of the building is designed as a landscape terrace of the Räcknitz slope and forms the library’s reading park. Its aura is shaped by grand lime trees standing on the embankment. These surround it on three sides and originate from the sports field that had previously been on this site
