The Diaconia Center Bethanien Hamburg is characterized by its clear urban design, which brings the essential natural advantages of the location to full advantage. Between the building parts there are three courtyards, which are connected by the large meeting courtyard, which is designed as a cloister and is supplemented by a geronto garden on the 1st floor. In the south, the large garden follows between the building and the tree population. In the west, the service yard forms the counterpart to the backyard of the church. During the planning process, the focus was on the identity of the overall complex through a targeted choice of materials, differentiated garden areas tailored to residents’ abilities, and barrier-free open spaces for maximum use.
